Props & Costumes

There are a lot of props & costumes used in the video. Most of the props used are to emphasize the lyrics that are being rapped by Lil’ Wayne. An example of this is when Lil’ Wayne refers to himself as the “Young Money Commissioner”, he’s wearing a General’s/Colonel’s uniform & is standing in front of members of his Young Money record label further emphasizing his position as a ‘commissioner'. The use of the van that Lil’ Wayne & the other characters are in is a reference to the Inception film as it’s the same prop used when the main character is being transported. The use of the woman wearing a short red dress could be there to attract or used as ‘eye candy’ for the males that watch the video as the woman may want them to watch the video again. This could also be said about the other women shown in the video. (Image 2)

When he says “Black & white diamonds, f**k segregation” the video shows him wearing 1 white & 1 black diamond chain. (Image 3)

When he mentions “I do it like a king do” it shows him wearing a cloak & a crown. This is used to show the fact that he’s a king in his own right or at least he thinks he is, so the use of the crown, cloak & the royal background makes it relevant to the lyrics. Another good use of props is at the beginning of the video where Lil’ Wayne gets kicked into the bath wearing a suit which is an obvious reference to Inception but that scene suggests that the rest of the video is like a manifestation of what’s happening in his own mind.
