Using Goodwin’s analysis there is a strong relationship between the lyrics and visuals within the music video. Throughout the majority of the video the images in which we see are related to the lyrics we here, for example, when he metaphorically states “I lost my mind”, in the video it is taken much more literal showing him actually chasing after a brain.
Furthermore, the video revolves around the recent film ‘Inception’ and as we can see straight away at the start of the video, there were references to the film where they have directly copied some of the films content, saying “He won’t wake...give him the kick” which is the same script in ‘Inception’. As the film is based on dreams, this video showed the characters within their own personal dreams, demonstrating the huge influence this gave the music video. I think this is why there are so many literal references between the lyrics and visuals because it is not reality, therefore in dreams it is not unusual for strange things to happen.
It is common for women to be the focus point in this music genre, and in this music video we saw women often dressed in provocative clothing which linked to the song lyric of how women are described and perceived. Moreover, the video did not particularly need to have many close ups of Lil Wayne to add to his image or to build motifs as he is already so successful and well known. The video was based more on a narrative role of telling a story to its viewers.
In relation to Craig Davis’ analysis I would categorise the music video to be in an Amplification video. I think that the director was fairly creative and made a video which illustrated the meaning of the lyrics well and visualises it in a way the viewer can easily understand, however instead of simply illustrating the lyrics, the director has chosen an idea for the video and completely expanded it throughout; this idea being Inception.
There was a lot of editing and post-production digital effects done to the video where we see Lil Wayne fall into the bath, and this was also repeating several times in the video in slow motion until we see him land in the bath completely at the very end.
