Magazine Covers Analysis

Promoting songs in magazines is one of the vital ways of spreading around a new song. In this magazine cover Kanye West is promoting his album 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'. He's right in the middle of the page which shows he's important, this is supported by the close up hot of the side of his head. Also the plain background makes the rapper stand put more. The black & white emphasizes the 'dark' & 'twisted mind of Kanye West as the colours black & white contradict each other. Black is usually compared with death , insanity & bad things as such, where white is usually compared with peace & other good things. The main target audience are both male & female from 15-30+ who are interested in hip hop. (Image 1)

In this magazine cover Jay-Z is promoting his song 'Empire State Of Mind'. In this cover Jay-Z looks very relaxed, calm & is in an almost business like manner. The medium shot of him in the centre of the ad shows that he's important. The clothes he's wearing & the watch suggests that he's rich & the stance he's in shows that he's a powerful figures which I think relates to the word 'Empire' showing he has one. The autumn colour palette makes the cover look casual & the fact that Jay-Z is smiling shows a sense of joyfulness & wealth. (Image 2)
