Goodwin's Analysis

Our music video is a song performance video. The performance took place in the studio but we have used background of main attractions & streets in the background, using the green screen. This is typical of a Hip Hop video as most take place on streets.

There is a relationship between lyrics & music to the visuals. The lyrics tells us a tale of domestic abuse, imprisonment, adultery, parental separation, financial struggle but the reoccurring words are ones associated with lights which is what our video is predominantly about as shown through the numerous different colours & lights/lighting used & seen. Also there is a performance throughout the video which makes our video an illustrative video.

There are may close ups of Kanye, Rihanna & Kid Cudi in the music video. Other than these shots there are not much other close ups of anything else in the video. Goodwin believes this is a major part of music video's & it is no different in our video. This is a need for record labels so the audience know who the artist is, also the motif in our video is the occurring use of lights.

There are a few references to voyeurism in this music video. Rihanna is wearing a semi revealing. Because Rihanna is wearing this it brings more attention to the music video & also the artist. It could be said that doing this is a way of promoting them to the wider audiences that may not have listened to the track without these references. Sexualising women in Hip Hop videos are very common & can now be seen as a typical convention of this genre.

Throughout the music video our Kanye wears the glasses that the real Kanye West wears. This is our only intertextuality.
